“Our INSPiRED team has made great progress in the first term of the project. Through co-creation with our consortium partners and local stakeholders, we have developed and evaluated several prototypes of optical devices that have the potential to support the diagnosis of poverty-related parasitic diseases in remote resource-limited settings. These devices are an integral part of the innovative tools that we are developing which contribute to SDG 3 – good health and well-being; and SDG1 – no poverty. As an extension of the objectives of this project, we have realized that there is a need for a transition phase to introduce novel optical diagnostic devices into the healthcare systems where they will eventually be used. Thus, we have developed early prototypes of transitional/educational digital devices. The diagnostic devices are being developed with the aim that they can be produced and maintained by local industries in sub-Saharan Africa.
